We are Heijmans, creators of the healthy living environment.
We want to make a meaningful contribution to the development of the Netherlands. Our aim is to leave the place where we build or develop better than how we found it. We do this as integrally as possible with our three business units, Infra, Building & Technology and Property Development. In everything we do, we maintain our focus on end users. We want to add as much value as possible for residents, home buyers, employees, visitors, patients, entrepreneurs and road users, so they can enjoy living, working and connecting.
1. The extraction of raw materials
To build homes, buildings and civil structures, we need building materials, which we purchase from suppliers. Heijmans sets requirements for the quality and sustainability of these materials. We take into account the reuse of residual flows. We monitor, measure and control the emissions that are emitted when extracting new raw materials, producing materials and transporting them.
2. Production
Heijmans purchases a large proportion of its products. Our procurement department adheres to a sustainable procurement policy. If we produce our own products, sustainability is an integral part of our choices. We keep track of the impact on our end products.
3. Area development projects
In area development projects, Heijmans stands alongside its clients and together we make sustainable choices that are appropriate for a particular area. Our developers take advice from ecologists on the best choices when it comes to life, health, safety, well-being, biodiversity and water. Mobility and the creation of smart cities are also themes on which Heijmans advises. This also includes making land ready for construction.
4. Reuse
Recycling creates a positive impact. Recycling raw materials after demolition work reduces energy consumption and resource use. Demolition work releases materials that can be taken apart and reused, so we reuse materials in the production phase or construction phase. We also take circular use into account when designing homes by building in such a way that components can be detached for reuse.
5. Building
We build with respect for people, animals and nature. We are committed to minimising our impact on the land. During construction, safety - for employees, the environment, the construction and the end users - is an important precondition. Residual products released during the construction phase are reused and re-enter the production process.
6. Use
We always think from the perspective of end users, so that they can live, work and connect in a healthy, safe, comfortable and pleasant way. Maintenance and eventual replacement are necessary during the use of a home, building or structure. Heijmans helps its clients to become more sustainable. If possible, we reuse or refurbish raw materials or parts.
