Respect for human rights is at the heart of every strong, responsible business. Of course this also applies to Heijmans. In all aspects of our work – from procurement to delivery – we work hard to ensure a healthy and safe working environment. We don't do this on an optional basis. Our 'How we work' code of conduct sets clear rules and guidelines for compliance with labour and human rights.
Our vision
We believe in sustainable and ethical business, because building a healthy living environment also requires a safe, fair and respectful working environment. Heijmans’ human rights policy complies with international standards for employment, fair contracts and liveable wages, social security, health & safety, participation, training and development, and equal opportunities. We also endorse the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As far as labour and human rights are concerned, we are committed to SDG 8 on 'decent work and economic growth'. Sustainable economic growth is only possible if capital, labour and raw materials are used responsibly, and profits and incomes are shared fairly between citizens and businesses. We promote equal opportunities, inclusion and safety, with an emphasis on fair remuneration and better working conditions.
Download our human rights policy hereOur 'How we work' code applies to more than 5,500 Heijmans staff. They are all builders with a Yellow Heart, helping to create a healthy living environment in the Netherlands every day. We can't do this alone, so we work closely with a team of dedicated staff of our subcontractors, partners and suppliers. Naturally, their labour and human rights are also very important to Heijmans. We require all parties we work with to sign and act on our Code of Conduct. This topic is also a key agenda item in contract discussions and evaluations with our partners.
